Discussing the content planning around the table

When

Time for a content calendar if…

  • content only gets made when someone remembers
  • locations don’t know which national promotions are coming up
  • there’s a discussion every time about what to post
  • you plan blogs, social and newsletters separately

What we do

How we create a content calendar.

  1. 01

    Goals

We start with your marketing strategy, your audiences and what the content needs to deliver.

  2. 02

    Session

In an in-depth session we decide on topics, channels and timings together.

  3. 03

    Calendar

A schedule per channel, with room for topical items and local input.

Why

Why work with a content calendar?

With a content calendar you plan everything ahead, down to the detail. That avoids last-minute work and debates about the content, because it was settled long ago. It’s easier to work ahead, and you’re more consistent in what you publish.

A content calendar includes every form of content: blogs, social media posts, newsletters and offline materials too. That way you see in one overview what goes out when, and the channels line up with each other.

The calendar works best when the marketing strategy is already in place. Then you know what every post contributes to.

Franchising

Creating a content calendar for a franchise.

Creating a content calendar can be quite a job. A fresh pair of eyes from outside helps. With a franchise there’s an extra factor: head office and the locations need to follow the same schedule.

So we create a calendar with two layers. The national layer with campaigns, promotions and fixed brand moments, set by head office. And a local layer, where every location can add its own news and local moments. That way a location knows weeks in advance which promotion is coming and what content goes with it.

In the session we also give you inspiration for blogs and for the channels you can use.

Frequently asked questions

About the content calendar.

What is a content calendar?

A schedule showing which content appears when and on which channel. Think of blogs, social media posts and newsletters. It translates your content strategy into concrete dates.

How often should you update a content calendar?

That depends on your goals, seasons and what’s going on. A quarterly review is a good start. If you publish a lot, or a lot happens in between, a monthly review is smarter.

Do you always have to stick strictly to the calendar?

No. Consistency matters, but a calendar must also be able to move with current events or with what the numbers show. So schedule fixed slots for topical subjects. You then decide the content just before publication.

What if we fall behind the calendar?

First find out why. If the schedule is too full, scale back the frequency to catch up. Better less and good than lots and rushed. If you can’t make it work yourself, we can create the content for you.
